Sometimes the most obvious things are right in front of you. With Titan now being in business for more than 10 years it finally dawned on me what we really do. We’ve been working directly with C-Level Executives to solve critical business issues through marketing and operational improvement. I know it sounds heady for an ad agency that is supposed to be skateboarding around the office being towed by their rescue dogs but that’s truly what we’ve been doing for 10 years. So, that’s why we decided to start calling Titan an Executive Marketing Agency (EMA). An agency that is purely focused on three things:

Increasing client revenue

Impacting efficiencies of direct sales, online sales, brand awareness, marketing, operations, finance, manufacturing and customer service

Reducing costs

That’s it. Simple. We are also working with our clients in these troubling economic times to build marketing budgets from the ground up to defend and maintain the base business and drive incremental growth. We’ll also provide a measurable return-on-investment that is agreed upon between agency and client before the initiative is launched. This greatly reduces marketing costs and ties marketing budgets directly to sales. Isn’t that what agencies are supposed to be doing anyway?

This is the language of the C-Suite. Short, quick, direct. We’re not going to waste a lot of breath on soft benefits. We still like skateboards and especially dogs…we just won’t bring them into the CEO’s office.

In this crazy world of advertising, it’s hard to take time and smell the roses so to speak. We recently had such an opportunity though thanks to a nice kudos from our editorial partners with The ACHR News. We’ve been running our Bosch Thermotechnology print advertising campaign themed “The Future of Energy” with them for most of 2011 in both print and online through www.achrnews.com Now of course we’re partial to our own work but it never hurts when someone else gives you praise. In this instance, that praise came in the form of an Advertising Excellence Award courtesy of “the News” as most everyone in the HVAC industry calls them.

The award criteria used findings from third-party research firm AdScore Publication Research™ that polled more than 8,000 ACHR News readers. The survey measured reader recall levels of specific advertisements that appeared in the June 21 issue of ACHR News.

Reader recall of the Bosch Thermotechnology “Future of Energy” print advertising was rated against other advertisements in the “air conditioning and heating units category”. Overall, 71 percent of respondents recalled the advertising while 46 percent read the content – equating to a higher than average recall rate.

In terms of respondent job titles, AdScore reported 29 percent were President/CEO/GM or Partner – confirming that high-level decision makers among the ACHR News subscriber base had both reviewed and rated the Bosch advertising as effective.

To us, this shows that our work is not only effective but that we’re reaching the right audience with our campaign. It’s a nice validation that this year’s work has moved the needle and who doesn’t like having a shiny new plaque to display in the lobby?

I was having drinks with a friend of mine in Chicago last week and we were talking about industry awards versus doing good creative work that moves a client’s business dramatically. –He’s one of the three creatives responsible for the Discover Card work that features Peggy—the other credit card company’s customer service representative who seems to be located in an eastern block country somewhere near the north pole. Funny stuff.

By picking on “the other guys,” Discover Card is able to work in a lot of their benefits by focusing on the fact that they are not “that guy”. They’ve made a memorable character along the way and it seems to be working for their business. None of the other credit card companies ever worried about Discover Card, but now the other cards are actually running commercials that subtly attack back at Discover. Problem? Nope. Great news. They’ve moved the needle. The client is ecstatic and loves the fact that they now have an advertising campaign people notice and remember.

So there we were in a hotel bar, on a cold, rainy night in Chicago, relishing in the fact that “sometimes a good, humorous creative product” actually does work. (Yes, you can read slight sarcasm there.) I have always been a strong believer that creative, done in the client’s best interest, always will work and help move the needle.

We could have been back in our own cities with our wives, but this is what we lived for—doing great advertising that worked. We were talking about how advertising industry awards from our peers are great, but having a client tell you the work is wonderful, and it’s improving their bottom line, well, that’s better than any award you get from your peers.

And now this past Halloween weekend, I got another great reward to share with my friend—someone came to a party dressed as Peggy, the character from the 14+ TV commercials he will have produced by year’s end.

Yep, the ones that have helped his client’s bottom line are also now a part of pop-culture. (My friend’s wife was dressed as Flo, the Progressive insurance character, but don’t even get me started on how annoying she is. –The character, not my friend’s wife.)

Isn’t it great when good advertising helps move a client’s bottom line north AND seeps into popular culture? I’ve heard someone at a volleyball tournament say, “Mountaintop” which is something a character says in my Zoosk commercial (Produced while freelancing at Ogilvy Atlanta). One of my old agencies also had a commercial (another creative team did) mentioned, and pretty much described in detail, on an episode of Friends. Remember that kinda famous show? And now Peggy. Isn’t advertising great?

Well, it can be if your company partners with the right agency and you trust that they have “helping your bottom line” as their best interest also.

That’s what I, and everyone else at Titan, have as our goal—getting good, trusting clients that want to produce great work to move the companies bottom line northward. We’re an Atlanta ad agency with national work to our credit and our best work still lies ahead with your brand.

Here’s my favorite of his spots so far:

As Agency of Record, Titan is helping Gold Standard Parking embark on a name change and rebranding that will highlight their strengths and increasing brand value. Ultimately, after thorough naming exercises and exploration, Gold Standard Parking has changed to 180 Parking Services. The name reflects the company’s mission to change the way customers view valet parking services. 180 Parking is leading the industry in a new direction by focusing their efforts on exceptional training and customer service rather than just parking cars. Their goal is to deliver the ultimate experience for corporate, hospitality and private event businesses.

With this in mind, Titan developed a new logo, identity system and updated 180′s website. Titan has also developed an on-going strategy to deliver the new brand message to clients and customers through social media channels.

The Titan Agency Breaks Ground On New Wing Devoted To Staging Photo Shoots and Production Services

The Titan Agency, an Atlanta-based full service advertising and marketing agency with offices in Miami, recently announced a partnership with award-winning photographer Danny Acres to offer its clients access to in-house photography services.

As part of the agency’s recent move into new offices, a portion of the new space was designed to accommodate a state-of-the-art in-house photo studio. Through the agency’s partnership with Acres, Titan clients can now stage photo shoots directly inside of Titan’s offices in support of a variety of marketing and advertising activities including product launches, branding campaigns, catalogues, websites and signage.

“Having the ability to stage shoots in our offices with someone of Danny’s caliber gives us greater control over the final product, which ultimately benefits our clients,” said Tony DeMartino, Titan CEO. “Our in-house staging also allows Danny to interact directly with our clients as well as Titan’s creative team throughout the entire shoot. If there are changes in direction or creative modifications, we can address those issues in real time and keep the entire project on schedule.”

Atlanta-based Acres is an award-winning commercial photographer who was the head freelance photographer for Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) Magazine for 7 years. In that role, he was responsible for producing and shooting the magazine’s fashion editorial spreads for WWD’s quarterly regional publications covering Atlanta, Dallas and Chicago.

Additionally, Acres has worked with leading brands and companies including Coca Cola, Spanx, Rocawear, Sherwin Williams and Lincoln Road Magazine. His celebrity clientele has ranged from Al Roker and John Daly to Young Jeezy and Lil’ Wayne on behalf of Rocawear.

“The ability to directly integrate my photography expertise into an advertising agency’s capabilities is a perfect compliment,” said Acres. “Being able to have a hand in the entire creative process from planning and executing a shoot through the production process is a big plus. And, being able to stage the shoots directly inside of Titan’s offices makes it convenient for clients and a real differentiator for the agency and for me.”

Sponsoring the annual 1873 Society Club of Atlanta Humane Society’s Humane Event gave us the chance to support a cause we believe in. It also gave us a chance to do some nice creative work announcing our sponsorship. We were given a full-page ad in the benefit’s program guide. Not happy with just doing a print ad, we decided to go a step further and integrate a QR code into it. When you scan the QR code it launches a video (see below) we created, then hosted on our Vimeo channel.

At Titan, we really believe that if you are asking a consumer to scan a QR code, you better give them something more than a website homepage for their efforts.

When you scan the QR code on his tag, you get sent to this video:

And by the way, we’d love to have a client in the pet category if you know any.

The Titan Agency Named Finalist in Atlanta Business Chronicle’s List of “Best Places to Work” in Atlanta

The Titan Agency, an Atlanta-based full service advertising and marketing agency with offices in Miami, was recently chosen from a field of 482 metro Atlanta businesses for recognition as one of Atlanta’s “Best Places to Work” by The Atlanta Business Chronicle in their 7th annual “Best Places to Work” program. The selection marks a first for the 10-year-old agency.

Titan was among 60 organizations recognized in the “small” business category, which is classified as companies with a workforce of 10-to-100 employees. Additional categories included “medium” for workforces of 101-to-500 employees and “large” for companies with over 500 employees.

“The foundation of a successful business starts and ends with your people. Without the talented professionals here at Titan, we couldn’t deliver the exceptional client work we pride ourselves on delivering daily,” Titan CEO and founder Tony DeMartino said. “We’re honored to be part of such a distinguished group of Atlanta businesses.”

Starting in June through their website, The Atlanta Business Chronicle solicited nominations from organizations with workforces based in the metro Atlanta area. Organizations that made the initial cut were provided surveys from a third party research vendor Quantum Workforce – a workplace analytics and business performance consulting firm.

Workers from each nominated organization were then surveyed using set criteria that calculated a points-based score. The businesses with the highest tabulated scores in each of the three categories ultimately comprised the 2011 rankings. All data and scores were generated from responses of the organization’s employees without any influence from management.

“This recognition is particularly special to me because it stems from positive feedback our staff supplied. We work diligently to provide a positive work environment and culture where our people can shine and it’s gratifying to see our efforts are paying off,” DeMartino added.

Most of us around Titan have a pooch, or two, at home and are generally suckers for our furry four-legged friends. So when I had the chance to help out with a great fundraiser at the W Hotel in Downtown Atlanta, I jumped at the chance. Donating my services, I did the photography and poster design for their event.

(click for larger image)

It’s going to be a fun time so make sure to join us this Thursday, Sept. 8th from 6-10pm. The event benefits Barking Hound Village Foundation Rescue. They’re a small organization, started by David York of Barking Hound, which takes dogs off death row in the Fulton County shelter, nurtures them to health, and then finds them forever homes in the northeast—where pet overpopulation isn’t as large of a problem.
